Edo Maas: Sunweb say it is unlikely Dutch teenager will walk again

Teenager Edo Maas might never walk again earlier this season when he had been involved during the Piccolo Lombardia in a collision with a car, his staff state.
The Sunweb riders, 19, broke his back with the car, that had entered the closed route on a descent in the collision.
He underwent surgery, however, Sunweb stated”it remains unlikely that operation in his legs could possibly return”.
The team called for race safety for riders and teams.
Maas’ collision was one of a number of serious incidents lately, including the passing of cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht throughout the Tour de Pologne at August.
Sunweb – who added that”fighting capability and hope prevails” to get Maas – desire cycling’s governing body, the UCI, to execute changes.
“While this won’t undo this catastrophic tragedy, we once again call upon our body to prioritise all their time and resources to securing and ensuring that the implementation of race conditions for both teams and their passengers,” the staff said.
